Explosion in Gaza City on 17 October
Early on 7 October, the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli border communities through the fortified border fence separating the Gaza strip and Israel, killing over 1,200 people including at least 29 Americans and committing barbaric atrocities on innocents.
Israel subsequently declared war on Hamas a day later and conducted air strikes on 800 targets in the Gaza strip, killing at least 400. Israeli Defense Force ground assets are preparing for a massive counter-strike into Gaza. Hezbollah appears to be conducting sporadic attacks from Lebanon. Pro-Israeli and pro-Hamas protests have erupted around the world. The UN Security Council called a closed-door emergency meeting. The US response has been modest to date.
And just like clockwork, China’s “Special Envoy on the Middle East Issue” called for an immediate ceasefire on Tuesday (China Daily), which would cement Hamas’s psychological victory over Israel and keep Hamas intact as a political-military force while disrupting the geopolitical dynamic in the Middle East by damaging a key US ally in the region, rewarding Hamas-backer Iran, and sowing doubt among Abraham Accord participants.
There are more benefits that accrue to China, too. Let’s examine the evolving issue.
BIDEN ADMINISTRATION PREPS THE BATTLESPACE
Just as the Biden administration laid the groundwork for the Russian invasion of Ukraine by the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan and lack of any deterrent actions taken during the Russian buildup prior to their invasion of Ukraines, so too were signals sent to Iran and Hamas that resulted in the Hamas terror attack last Saturday.
Restored money to Palestinians. The New York Post reported on 10 October that “[t]he Biden administration has funneled more than $730 million to a United Nations organization for refugee assistance in the West Bank and Gaza Strip that harbored personnel who have incited violence against the Jewish people.” This was a deliberate and deceitful reversal of a Trump policy because the money passed through the UN because federal law prohibits direct US aid to the Palestinian Authority or Hamas. A wink and a nod and material support for Palestinian terrorists.
Restarted the JCPOA Discussions with Iran. The Biden State Dept initiated discussions with Iran in Vienna in April 2021 to reinvigorate the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), an Obama-era initiative that facilitated Iran’s development of a nuclear bomb that was shelved by the Trump administration. According to a State Dept special briefing, the seventh round of talks was completed in December 2021. Concessions to Iran, including the easing of oil sanctions, continue to be the order of the day. The signal to Iran could not have been clearer.
The Ransom Payment. On 12 Augst, the Daily Caller News Foundation reported that $6 billion in Iranian assets in a South Korean bank was unfrozen by the US and transferred to a Qatari bank (a money middleman for Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood) as part of a deal for returning five American prisoners held in Iran. Observers speculated that the $6 billion was instantly turned into a line of credit for Iran that was used to finance Hamas and other Iranian-backed terrorist groups.
The Disastrous Withdrawal from Afghanistan. The Biden administration’s hasty retreat from Afghanistan in August 2021 led to billions of dollars of US military equipment falling into the hands of the Taliban. Some of those arms turned up in Kashmir, and a Newsweek article in June 2023 speculated that some have found their way into Palestinian hands. The withdrawal signaled a US retreat from the region while emboldening Iran and almost certainly materially aiding its proxy terrorist groups.
HOW CHINA BENEFITS
Communist China’s goal in the Middle East is to replace the US as the de facto hegemon while securing lasting supplies of oil and gas to fuel Chinese industry. The largest country in the Middle East is Iran, which is a Chinese proxy, having signed a number of agreements with China including a deal that will deliver US$400 billion in Iranian oil to China over 25 years. In June, China also claimed to have brokered the reopening of Iran’s embassy in Saudi Arabia (Global Times) and welcomed Iran to full membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) (from Global Times). Chinese growing influence with Iran was directly confirmed by US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on 9 October by CNBC when he asked Chinese leader Xi Jinping on to “use [China’s] influence on Iran” to help contain the Israeli-Hamas war.
What benefits Iran diminishes America’s role and leverage in the Middle East. Terror attacks on Israel by Hamas (and Hezbollah) increase Iran’s leverage with Middle East nations. Money earned in selling Iranian oil to China directly supports those terrorist groups.
The ultimate irony is that communist China has blamed the US for Hamas’s terrorist attack. According to Breitbart News on Monday, state-run Global Times “held the United States responsible for the outbreak of radical Islamic terrorism, claiming Washington’s ‘inflammatory, reckless, and crazy talks [sic]’ drove Hamas to pillage the homes of random Israeli nationals.” Yes, yes, the US is responsible for an unprovoked terrorist attack on innocent civilians by a terror group directly aided by Chinese proxy Iran (not!).
China has benefitted in other more direct ways by Biden administration that are being highlighted by the Israeli-Hamas war, which could be considered another front in China’s ongoing non-kinetic war with the US:
Pro-Palestinian protests erupted on college campuses and in the streets in major cities in the US, diverting FBI and DHS focus away from secret Chinese police stations and Chinese espionage operations. The protests also weaken China’s “Main Enemy” on the home front by exacerbating fissures in American society (in this instance, between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel factions).
Biden reversed Trump’s border policies, opening the US-Mexico border to enable Hezbollah and other Islamic terrorist to be pre-positioned in the US for future actions, as well as “military-age Chinese men with the same haircuts, tattoos, and clothes … linked to PLA Special Operations Unit,” according to The Epoch Times on 28 September.
Biden administration policies have depleted the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and drawn down conventional weapons stockpiles, degrading US national security and military readiness.
CONCLUDING THOUGHTS
The Hamas terror attack from Gaza into Israel shocked the world while emboldening their primary sponsor Iran, a proxy of communist China. Biden administration actions essentially gave a green light for that attack through a deliberate policy of restarting aid to Palestinian groups linked to terrorists, working to restart JCPOA negotiations with Iran, and concluding what amounts to a $6 billion ransom agreement for American hostages held by Tehran, with those funds likely funneled to Hamas and other Iranian-backed terror groups.
China benefits directly by weakening the top US ally in the Middle East, sowing uncertainty in erstwhile American allies in the region, and positioning PLA special forces personnel and proxy Islamic terrorists inside the US.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration has depleted US resources and diminished morale in the US military and among US allies – virtually gifts to communist China!
All benefits in the expanding Israeli-Hamas war to date accrue to China, and the CCP’s influence operation in the US continues to pay massive dividends!
The end.
One other thing to consider: Obama's DSA acolytes are running things.

Hard to even watch or listen to any news these days. I fear the country will not survive another year of Jill Biden/Obama.
